"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." ~ from ISAIAH 61 Bible verse for this Blog

Scripture Readings This Week

"We continue to shout our praise even when we’re hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we’re never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!" — Romans 5:3-5 MSG

Prayer for the Week
"Jesus, thank You for taking on humanity for us. Thank You for suffering the indignity of becoming one of us so that You know what we go through, what life and hardships are like, what brokenness is. The thought is beyond comprehension! You became one of us to be with us. Thank You that we can always trust You to never leave us, that when we struggle and hurt and become overwhelmed with tears, You come along saying, “Me too.” We love You! Amen."~Laurie McClure

Discussion/Reflection Questions

{early today instead of at 6pm for SOS}

I'll be back later ... with more, or at least by Weds., because this Weds. is the start of Lent, so I'm exploring and examining which 40 Day plan to do here and also over at YV (that's for YouVersion). There are many good reading plans to choose from as I have done in previous years. I've looked at a Challenge one, specific ones for Lent, and one aimed at my One Word: Healing (which just happened to be 40 days) and I am leaning towards that one for my blog here and I may do the Challenge one over at my Missions Blog and the others over on YouVersion {well, at least one} however that's a bit more commitment than I want at this time so that's why I wanted to get you plugged in or looking for a good one. For me, it would be good to do a "healing" one through the season of Lent, since it's a time of repentance, prayer and fasting ... leading up to Christ's suffering and His Resurrection, our Redemption paid and finished.

Remember Sundays are not included in the 40 days, so the dates for Lent 2017 are March 1st-April 13th (my older brother's birthday) 5 weeks ... and then after that LifeWay Women will be starting an online study of "Redeemed" by Angela Thomas Pharr (which I am ready to do with book in hand already because of my 40 days of prayer came from there and her so I got it early) so if you're interested in being redeemed or already know you are, register and let's celebrate together. "In this 7-session Bible study, Angela Thomas-Pharr explores the practical side of redemption, inviting us to lean upon Jesus for our real help and hope." I will be doing this here later.

[Plus Elevation Church with Pastor Steve Furtick has his YV plan "7 Mile Miracle" which I've shared in previous years. I thought he was doing the series at his church now, but it looks like he's doing a different power one or "reverse the search" (?)] so I guess the sermons are no longer available except through purchase.

FRIDAY "Finding I AM..."

as the

... John 15:1-8 ...
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

this day as
I do every Friday

" Lysa gave us a beautiful illustration of how we’re connected to the vine, tended by our ultimate Gardner, God."- See more at P31 OBS and video for Session 5 at the Mount of Olives and in her book

As I practice "abiding" today (offline) ... I thought it may be important to share the rest of the title (in case you've missed it) ... "How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart" ... which certainly lines up with "The Broken Way" OBS as well ... and the True Vine (there's a little snippet of this if you follow that link).

For me, the image of "grapes on the" Vine are the perfect image to go with this passage in John 15 and I love the Father, as the Gardener, until I step back and realize that this "gardening" most often includes "pruning" and not just picking. And this article was most helpful in understanding "abiding" as 3 interwoven aspects of Connection, Dependence, and Continuance ... as I choose to

(Greek - 'meno')
{Yeah, I'm feeling a bit clingy today}

I need to be more fruit - full
like those bunches of grapes in that SONshine

Trust me - many of us would disagree about "joy in the journey" on this side of eternity with all the many situations, brokenness and need for healing in so many places and ways. We know that for us as Christians - that there is everlasting joy in our destination. This image is from our Christian radio station, so surely they know the unspeakable joy we have in Christ ... and our eternal destination. So I'm not sure where this quote comes from or their meaning, yet I have been hearing much lately that we, as Christians, need to be showing the world more of our joy in the journey.

If you know me and this blog for any time ... years ago I shared JOY as my One Word (2011) and a grief series called "Help for the Journey" from GriefShare, which I called or thought it was called "Joy in the Journey" ... guess I really want some JOY ... so this image and quote stuck out to me. I can barely remember a time that JOY flowed from me (sigh) and I saw any "joy in the journey". My recent trip/journey back to Minnesota is a clear example of how I might have had much "joy" in the journey and the destination ... yet there was not joy in either, sad to say ... I was woken up to far too many heavy situations along the journey and once I was home. You would have thought after all these years (20) away, I would have found much JOY (and don't get me wrong, I was filled with JOY about arriving back here with my 3 furry friends alive, etc. ... but so many problems stifle that JOY inside). So sometimes, I feel we must purposely seek JOY each day, no matter what. But "journeys" can be long with a whole slew of unexpected problems so we have to refill our tanks of JOY constantly.

This is what happens for me ... here in "blogland" or via emails, phone calls, comments, studies, books, etc. and in church and special events. And my favorite days to open my emails usually are Mon. and Thurs. when I receive my devotional letter from Jennifer Camp (LOOP) and my "whisper" from The Passion Translation {plus my studies} that seem to send a personal message to me from God. I read both hoping there may be "joy" for this journey ... and I have chosen this one although the "joy" comes in the "whisper" heard and received yet the following opening also fits:

"... David wrote his most inspired Psalms when persecuted and harassed. Paul wrote his most joyful letter while imprisoned awaiting the sentence of death. Jesus gave us His most sweet covenant in the evening before His death. Your glorious poetry and song will be heard when you are in the most difficult situation. Don't just wish that everything was different, but love Him where you are and watch it all change before your eyes!" TPT

Psalm 102:11-12 The Passion Translation
My days are marked by the lengthening shadows of death.
I’m withering away and there’s nothing left of me.
But then I remember that You, O Lord,
still sit enthroned as King over all!

The fame of Your name will be revealed to every generation!

"Many are restless in this hour."

"Many long for lasting change. They are puzzled over what seems like delay in their advancement. Restlessness comes when you take your eyes off of Me. I call you to rest in My peace and watch Me work. I will be your Sabbath Rest.

The distractions are many for My chosen ones. Many voices and many activities can confuse your heart, but in Me there is a peace that transcends all understanding. I give to you, not logic, but peace. My peace can never be disturbed and robbed from you. The peace of your world comes and goes and is easily troubled. Come into My ocean of peace and I will speak to you the words you need to hear for what is about to come.

You no longer have a place in the world. Your place is with Me. Step into Me and I will give the place destined for you. My mansions filled with peace and glory await your entrance. There are many resting places in Me. I long to be your undisturbed peace in a time of trouble and rapid change. Come closer to Me and I will come closer to you.

The plans I have for you require that you focus on Me and not your shifting circumstances. Confine yourself to Me, as a prisoner of love, and you will be nourished by the eternal."

Psalm 27:4-6 The Passion Translation

"Here’s the one thing I crave from God,
The one thing I seek above all else:
I want the privilege of living with him
Every moment in his House,
Finding the sweet loveliness of his face;
Filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace.
I want to live my life so close to him
That he takes pleasure in my every prayer.
In His shelter in the day of trouble, that’s where you’ll find me,
For he hides me there in his holiness.
He has smuggled me into his secret place
Where I’m kept safe and secure."

Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” — Luke 10:36-37

Prayer for the Week
Jesus, thank You for showing us how to love, how to give love, how to be about others and for others. Help us see those who need love. Help us to care when we don’t care and would rather rush through our day. Help us to stop and listen to the Holy Spirit and to show Your love. Jesus, remind us to show up and knock. Thank You for those who have shown us Your love, who have knocked on our doors, and who have invited us in when we needed a friend, when we have been broken. Thank You for loving us, Jesus! We love You! Amen. "~Laurie McClure

the truth is that I have not been keeping up with this myself, so I'm behind and did not even make it to last week's Thurs. Chat of the study guide, which is kinda like small group time - I miss out on alot of the participation parts because I don't do Facebook (that's another story)but I do love watching the videos(which I have done) and last week, as I mentioned on Fri., I just had too much of real life to deal with ... too much "brokenness" around me, all part of that healing (even SONday sermon in church was about "refining" for healing ... God is definitely at work and tying an overwhelming amount of stuff together for me, while my husband's away in Mexico - yeah, you read that right.

these are the
Discussion Questions
chosen at the study blog

  • Where is it hardest for you to step outside your comfort zone to #bethegift? {personally I don't get this hashtag stuff or do it}
  • What is one way this week you want to not be afraid of brokenness and inconvenience?
  • How would your life be different if you thought of every seeming interruption as a manifestation of Christ, a big or small opportunity to enter into participation in His sufferings?

{...and I don't even share my answers to these, which I thought I would do right here in the comfort of my own blog, and I haven't-sorry but I do reflect on them}
I just am not in a place to "be the gift" right now anywhere
I'm having even a hard time "being that" to where I personally need to
(not really being accepted from me, when all someone seems to want is financial resolutions and is not listening or following advice)

I confess since 20 years in Mexico
I came back with intentions of helping "family" with hopes
things would be different but in many ways they are so much worse
so my answer about "hardness" is my heart seems to be hardening
I am use to being out of a comfort zone and doing for others.
Since being home, I feel really useless, unable and unwilling in some ways
as I isolate myself more and more
(and yes, I do know that's not healthy or a solution)
I do have plans to get involved with something outside of my family in March but as it looks, and as much as I may like to ... I may not do this either. It has to do with a church launch and a ministry that I learned about: (but it's in Wisconsin -about a 5 hr. drive away, and I have unreliable transportation still; I don't really know her, nor the church people that may be going - yeah, just excuses - but they're real, and with my loss of hearing, I am so much more self-conscious and aware of my inabilities more and more, so I am withdrawing alot rather than being me, or the me I use to me ... and I know full well, that I never go in my own power and with my many weaknesses - that's it's always in God's strength and for His glory, all through Him however He purposely had me at that particular church on that day to hear that single woman and ministry, to let me know He knows me, my heart's desires and that this would encourage me to get involved - so we'll see what happens, it would be a continuation of my mission in Mexico in some ways ... so I clearly see the connection God is putting in place while back home ... He is so good!)
So have I answered any of this? ... not really,  yet anyone reading this,  if you know me at all (online or offline), I, myself am wounded and broken,  but this is when God can use us most - I don't usually procrastinate, I use to be a "yes" to too much and God has shown me how to be more wise in my "yes" ... and I have "stuff" to work on personally, and with relationships and "family" ... but that's not getting done either (so I'm overwhelmed and exhausted without even doing much because my mind and prayers are working overtime and need to get healthy). Without giving specifics, this appears like much rambling for nothing ... but I do not have the energy or heart to enter into fully share in all God lays on my heart.
Yes, Lord I hear and amen to this week's prayer and Laurie McClure's openness as well as Ann's!

FRIDAY "FINDING I AM ..." and "No More Faking"

today I am continuing

[not just on this excellent map provided through Proverbs 31 OBS from Lysa TerKeurst that goes so beautifully with her book]

but also

... because it's my 'day away' with our LORD - offline and set apart just seeking and hopefully FINDING I AM ... as HE IS for me, as this week in the study of Lysa's book ... and OBS at P31, we have come to know Him as: the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Gate and the Good Shepherd and this week as ...

The Life

which I love because
there are two verses for

(maybe you can see them on the map)

my life

And the second verse has been a key verse for me
for many years, as the main verse
for me in Mexico
one of the first verses
I taught my Spanish students
before leaving to Mexico
so I had it memorized
in Spanish and it was key to
God speaking to me clearly on the beach
with one of the inspirational women
God used to my "mission field"

When I started this post, I had hoped to be able to write more about "No More Faking Fine... Ending the Pretending" or even my book review for this book, but "life" called me away and I have not been online since Mon./Tues. - way too much going on for me, including being fitted for my hearing aides ... all I can say is I am one person that does not "fake fine" yet still much of this book can apply to me and Esther Fleece's life is different from mine yet still this is one book that should not be missed (but one day I will get my review written and you'll see why) - of course, you can read the reviews at Amazon or other sites to find out if this book may be for you too like it is for me. Clearly - this may be my #1 book this year and I am reading alot of fantastic books!

“When we fake fine, we fake our way out of authentic relationship with God, others, and ourselves.

"The one thing all humans have in common is the journey of walking through pain, hurts, disappointment, etc. Our culture tells us to ignore these things, move one, forgive and forget. So many times we rob ourselves of the opportunity to be healed, I know I have. But pain doesn’t have to be the end of our stories. We can process through our grief and sadness with God and come out redeemed and whole. That is the message of HOPE we are spreading and you don’t have to look far to see people who need it!"

WOW ~ "Heal Our Land"

I could hardly wait since last week
to share
"Heal Our Land"
and this
Walk On Weds.

not knowing what direction
God would lead
which path

knowing that this song
is timely and so needed
in our world, in our churches
in our lives
by so many of us

I noticed that out of the 11 songs
only 7 were in the YouVersion reading plan
so this is one of the 4 without a devotional given
{so if Kari Jobe didn't do one, how dare I-because I care}

I care about the many that are broken
the many that were broken - in the church
the many that are broken - in our land
the many that are broken
and the reasons that they are

Many hearts have cried out
in their brokenness for healing
some have remained silent
some are not able
some are ...

{if you can't tell, I'm stalling as I write waiting for God's Holy Spirit to whisper words that I, one of the broken, might
compose or share ... to help ... to bring healing ...
that we may receive healing from Jehovah Rapha}

{yes, I still believe in miracles in this day}

"I am the One who leads you through life"...

"I have My hand upon you and I will not fail to guide you into the perfect path I have chosen for you. Many are the doors I have opened for you, for I am your Father and I watch over every part of you and every step you take. When shadows linger on your path I will be there to brighten your way and when you are confused I will make My ways even more clear to you.

When your life is in My hands you will never need to worry about what direction you are to go. It is not a game of "Hide and Seek," searching for My will, as though you had lost it. My choices for your life will prevail and you will one day see how perfectly I have guided you. I have chosen you and because you are Mine, I have commanded My angels to be in charge of your days, protecting and holding you in My ways so that you will not stumble as you walk with Me.

Never doubt My plans for your life. I have made no mistake. You are always in My hands as the one I love. There may have been an earthly father that has forgotten his child, but I will never forget you, for the blood of My Son has made you fully Mine. I have called every star by name, I have measured out the oceans of the earth in the hollow of My hand, I have held the mountains of the earth and unrolled the tapestry of the skies-- I will never forget you or fail to hold you near Me.

Watch as My mysterious ways open up before your eyes. Many have seen My miracles and never learn My mysteries. I will show miracles and mysteries as you keep your heart before Me. My dear child, I am a Father that will never fail you. I will instruct you in the way you should go and you will hear the voice of My Spirit giving you the secrets of My ways. Come closer to Me and I will whisper the words of life that will make you strong and pure for what is to come. I am the One who leads you and never fail you."Jan. 16th, 2017 TPT email

{simple words in the lyrics of Kari's song yet the cry of our hearts and souls from our spirit within to "Heal ..."}

Flawed, yet beautiful
Restore, refine
Lord, You're merciful

Redeem, revive

Spirit of God
Breathe on Your church
Pour out Your presence
Speak through Your word
We pray in every nation, Christ be known
Our hope and salvation, Christ alone

New power, new wine
As divisions fall
One church, one bride
Jesus, Lord of all

With one voice we cry

Spirit of God
Breathe on Your church
Pour out Your presence
Speak through Your word
We pray in every nation, Christ be known
Our hope and salvation, Christ alone

So, God we pray to You
Humble ourselves again
Lord, would You hear our cry
Lord, will You heal our land
That every eye will see
That every heart will know
The One who took our sin
The One who died and rose

And when Your kingdom comes
And when at last You call
We'll rise to worship You alone

Spirit of God
Breathe on Your church
Pour out Your presence
Speak through Your word
We pray in every nation, Christ be known
Our hope and salvation, Christ alone

Pour out Your presence
Speak through Your word
We pray in every nation, Christ be known
Our hope and salvation, Christ alone"
